I was talked into a lease
Name: Kelli Cox
State Purchased: North Carolina
Model Year: 2005
Purchase/Lease Date: November 2004
Story:
I was talked into a lease. The lease states that if I want to buy the car at the end, it would cost me $11,000. I knew I would be better off buying the car at the end to avoid the $3-4,000 they would ding me for in fees and “damage repairs.” I took the car to use as a trade in and was offered $10,000. I was going to have to finance the “negative equity.” No problem. Well, after three hours of trying to get VW to fax the paperwork with the official payoff, they sent the paper with the payoff amount as $13,000. I called them, they stated the dealer had to pay the “fair market value” of the car. What possible difference does it make who pays off the car. They get their money either way. My lease does not state VW has the right to set this price, nor to change the payoff value depending on who pays the money. I hate VW, I will never own another one of their cars, I will never lease another car.
